Skylar Volman
Over and Over, 2020
Digital print on fabric 50” x 59”
Ever since Skylar was young, she has been involved in the performing arts and while she appreciated visual art, she had never thought of herself as a visual artist. When she reached the upper school art program, she found a love for large scale projects in a variety of mediums. In her junior year, she took a hiatus from her massive projects and began an exploration of technique in her sketchbook.
Outside of the studio, Skylar enjoys spending time with friends, eating lots of Japanese food and watching documentaries. Next year, she will be attending Stanford University and pursuing a degree in Urban Studies.
Creating this piece was an endless cycle of repetition, much like the one we’re living in now. My work seeks to give the eye an endless supply of visuals to devour and the longer you look at it, the more I hope you will discover.
This piece was originally intended to be displayed, large scale, in the gallery. However, given the circumstances, I’ve shared the digital file instead. Additionally, displaying this piece large scale would allow the viewer to observe the intricate details of this piece up close — something that is not possible in a digital file. In an attempt to recreate this experience, I’ve shared a video zooming in on various parts of the piece.
